- To understand how a person’s religious or spiritual views can help or hinder
- To learn about some of the supports for spirituality.
About the Presenters: Gretchen Newmark, MA, RD, LD is a licensed, Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist in private practice in NE Portland’s Hollywood District. She specializes in helping people who weight cycle or experience other disordered eating. She enjoys collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive out-patient treatment.
She has decades of experience in meditation and yoga, which she relies on to help people develop self-compassion and mindfulness and to find balance and pleasure in their eating and exercise.
She is also trained in spiritual direction, a kind of honored listening that enables people to discern their own truth, including what, if any, tradition, community, practices and teachings will best fit their view and needs. A genuine, life-giving spirituality it is a powerful tool for recovery.
Gretchen founded and led the first group for people with eating disorders in Los Angeles. She is active in her Buddhist group and teaches Buddhism throughout North America.
