Hello! I specialize in nutrition therapy for individuals affected by eating disorders or disordered eating. I work with adults, teenagers, and caregivers of young children. In 2013 I began working in the eating disorder field with employment at Carolina House’s residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) eating disorder programs. In 2017 I joined a non-diet private practice where I continue to use weight inclusive, responsive feeding, intuitive eating and trauma-informed practices. My goal is to provide highly individualized care for clients, and their loved ones, as they find a more peaceful and sustainable relationship with food.

I offer individual nutrition counseling for those struggling in their relationship with food. My practice is rooted in the belief that true food freedom is possible and guided by the principles of Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating. Whether exploring your relationship with food for the first time or stuck in the cycle of disordered eating, I can help. Sessions range from meal plan accountability to replacing the lies of diet culture with a value-aligned food philosophy of your own to riffing on the nostalgic power of Poptarts. I have a subspecialty in gut health and can provide support with GI concerns through a weight-neutral and anti-diet lens. Reach out to see if we're a good fit! Licensed in Oregon + Washington

Brave Acorn
Bio
When a green shoot first comes out of an acorn, it breaks apart the acorn’s shell in the process. To the oak tree it will eventually become, this moment may be looked back on as break-through. But to the acorn itself, this first stage can only ever be experienced as breakdown. Moving from breakdown to breakthrough requires courage to sit with that fragile, newly emerging version of self until it becomes bigger and stronger than what came before. We here at Brave Acorn help people in the greater Portland area align body, mind, emotions, and intersectional identities in their daily lives. We nurture strong roots for personal growth and welcome people of all sizes, races, religions, gender identities, and sexual orientations. We are trauma-trained, take a Health at Every Size approach to food and weight issues, and encourage people to work with their body and emotions as allies (rather than enemies) on their journey towards growth and healing.

I believe that food plays an important role in connecting us to ourselves and also to those we care about. When an eating disorder or disordered eating develops, it disrupts the relationship with oneself and with others. My goal is to meet you where you are in your recovery process and help you begin or continue your journey. For some individuals, that means having a more structured approach to eating, and for others it means giving yourself permission to eat more freely. My style is to be honest and straightforward, and to support you in finding better ways to nourish your body. If you enjoy being active, and are healthy enough to do so, we can also work on motivations for being active and improving your relationship with physical movement. My approach tends to be direct and supportive, always working within a treatment team. I hope to help you understand why you have used eating disorder behaviors from a nutrition perspective, and help you learn to let them go. I practice from a HAES, non-diet and weight inclusive approach.

My practice centers those who are queer or questioning, have experienced trauma (both single event and complex), eating disorders, body image disturbances, gender dysphoria, those who struggle with anxiety/depression, and those are trying to figure their new season of life. Therapy is a vulnerable process based upon your desires, therefore I strive for all therapeutic decisions to be done collaboratively, consent driven, and with anti-oppressive frameworks at the forefront. I believe that you have the answers within you, we just may need to do work to uncover them. I utilize a technical eclecticism approach when working with clients, which means I employ a variety of techniques such as DBT, ACT, IFS, EMDR, and harm reduction. My counseling foundation is rooted in person centered, humanistic and feminist theories. I strive to create a collaborative and autonomous environment for my clients. Being a person who has experienced trauma, oppression, and the subsequent mental health issues that can arise from these issues can create feelings of not being safe in the world. While I acknowledge that individual therapy cannot fix systemic issues, I hope that the space we create together can create at least one pocket of safety for you.
