I work with folks 18 and older on issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment issues, disordered eating and body image. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative and transparent. I'm trained in somatic- and attachment-focused EMDR for processing traumatic memories and addressing the roots of anxiety and depression. My work is driven by Health At Every Size, fat liberation and social justice. I hope to help you explore and protect values that truly support your health wellness, as well as overcome barriers to living those values, such as worry, perfectionism and negative self-evaluation. I want to hold space for the reality that your eating disorder has been an attempt to get your needs met--it's just not sustainable. You, as much as anyone else, deserve health and healing.

After growing up in the Midwest, I moved out to the West Coast to complete my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Women’s Studies from San Diego State University. Following graduation, I moved up to Portland, Oregon where I earned my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I chose Lewis and Clark not only for its verdant tree-covered campus, but because the programs and coursework emphasized building a therapeutic practice grounded in social justice and anti-oppression. Additionally, I completed the Lewis and Clark Eating Disorders Certificate Program which included numerous courses in that specialty area, covering topics such as Health at Every Size (HAES), mind-body connection, and the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders. As part of my graduate program, I completed an internship with a local eating disorder treatment center where I had the opportunity to work with adolescent and adult clients of all genders at the Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) levels of care. Following my graduation from Lewis and Clark, I had the privilege of staying on as a Primary Therapist there before being given the opportunity to help open a new adult Residential Treatment Center (RTC). Several theories and paradigms inform my practice, many of which you can see listed in the “Therapeutic Toolbox” section below. I allow my passion and curiosity to guide me in pursuing new trainings, community discussions, justice work, and other opportunities for personal and professional growth. Ultimately, my approach to therapy is rooted in compassion, connection, and curiosity. I also bring plenty of playfulness, humor, and authenticity into the therapeutic space and encourage clients to do the same. I hope to walk with you in your growth process and help you recognize your inherent strength, resilience, worthiness, and wisdom. Your experience is unique, and you are the expert on your life. Our work together will benefit from mutual, reciprocal openness and honest communication. Engaging in therapy is hard work, and I want to acknowledge the time, energy, and courage that it takes for you to commit yourself to this process. I look forward and am honored to work with you in your pursuit of growth, healing, and liberation. As a therapist, I hold a safe and compassionate space for each client, so that they feel held and supported in a way that allows them to create their own profound transformation. I utilize the teachings of author and scholar Dr Brene´ Brown, as the foundation for my work, and also use the powerful modality of Neuro Linguistic Programing, to help women release from the old programs of shame and negative thinking. Simultaneously, I empower each woman to creatively build a thriving foundation based on authenticity, courage and resiliency; everything that they will need to live a bold and fulfilling life.

I work with ALL people (size, gender, sex, race, ability, religion) who feel like a stranger within their own body, mind, and spirit. This may be due to loss of faith (deconstruction), identity work, existential questions, relational issues, chronic self neglect, disordered eating, trauma. Those who are hungering to be more attuned and embodied in their emotions, values, sense of worthiness but somewhere got lost along the way and are ready to find home again. My approach is collaborative, relational, trauma informed, and human. I draw on my own history/faith transition from Christianity for spiritual matters. I also draw from attachment based, IFS, mindfulness, gestalt and psychodynamic interventions. I support HAES (Health at Every Size) and I see age 18+ through mature adulthood. Each person has a story they can flourish in, no one has to merely tolerate life. My joy is to enter into and unearth that story with you. This is where renewal and transformation begins. Just as all people have the vulnerability of being deeply wounded, I believe we all have the capacity, resilience, and creativity to truly heal.

As a therapist, I specialize in eating disorder and body image work, life transitions, and couples therapy. My approach is client-centered and trauma-informed; while I bring a background in mental health, I believe you are the expert on yourself. I like to bring my authentic self to sessions, which means you can expert humor, warmth and genuine passion for witnessing people’s stories. I also often incorporate narrative therapy, art therapy, psychoanalysis, parts work, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I’m curious about your family history, relationships, and what makes you feel pleasure, feel grounded and feel connected. In our sessions, I may encourage you to tune into your body and physical sensations as a way to better understand your emotions. Together, we’ll work toward greater self-compassion and a deeper connection to your embodied self. When I’m not working, you can find me in my garden with my husband, my daughter, and our cats, cooking while listening to good music or a podcast, working on a painting, drawing, or craft, or enjoying being outside year-round (as a native Portlander, I’m no stranger to hiking in the rain!).
