Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment used to treat complex, multi-diagnostic individuals with a wide range of behavioral health concerns such as eating disorders, suicidality, self-harm, substance use disorders, and difficulties in emotion regulation. Portland DBT Institute offers three levels of adherent DBT treatment: enhanced skills training (skills-only groups), standard outpatient DBT, and intensive outpatient programs (IOP).
The Eating Disorder IOP (ED-IOP) at Portland DBT Institute is a 16-week program specifically designed to provide comprehensive, evidence-based treatment for individuals battling eating disorders, including anorexia, ARFID, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and other disordered eating behaviors. This program is grounded in DBT, which has been proven highly effective in helping individuals develop healthier relationships with food, body image, and emotional regulation. The ED-IOP is an excellent fit for adults and young adults struggling with disordered eating behaviors who may need more support than traditional outpatient services or are transitioning to the community from a higher level of care.

Dr WendyLeigh White, a licensed naturopathic doctor and nondiet weight-neutral nutritionist, takes a “nature cure” approach to prevention and healing in her clinical practice, teaching, and speaking. She has maintained a clinical practice since 2008 and taught at the graduate level 2016-2021. In 2020 and 2021, she was included in the Portland Monthly’s Top Doctors, Naturopath category. She provides naturopathic care, nutrition counseling, Safe and Sound Protocol, and Visionary Craniosacral Work (VCSW) at Heart Spring Health.
Her aim is to empower every one of her patients/clients/students, especially those in larger bodies, to understand the interconnected systems of your body and its specific needs. In this way, you learn to tune in to the signals your body is telling you. Only then can you give it what it needs to heal, to thrive, to learn how not to follow in your family’s medical footprints.
Building from a “nature cure” philosophy (food, water, air, movement, relationships), Dr White specializes in developing personalized lifestyle plans that align to your unique genetic makeup and lifestyle. She enjoys coaching people who are needing support with nervous system soothing, blood sugar management, prediabetes, and Type 2 diabetes.
Dr White is most passionate when she is speaking to groups about the body’s innate ability to heal itself and to keep itself in balance when supported appropriately.

If binge eating or worrying about food, eating, weight and shape feel like they have taken over your life, I can help you regain a sense of balance, control and peace around these issues. My approach is to help guide you back to your own body's inner wisdom. I am a clinical psychologist and have over 25 years of experience in the treatment of binge eating and related problems. I use weight neutral, evidence-based treatments that have been shown to help clients obtain lasting change. Ultimately, my goal is to help you become free from the rules, stress, anxiety and negativity that limit life when someone is suffering from an eating disorder. And with that new freedom, you’ll be able to turn more of your time and attention to the things that truly bring you joy and matter most to you.

I became a counselor because I am passionate about healing! I believe that people have the ability to change and improve their lives in ways they never thought possible. I work hard to cultivate a space of warmth, kindness and safety so that we can explore this territory together. You can expect me to be compassionate, warm, determined and fierce in our work together, loyal and tenacious in advocating for you. I look forward to empowering and motivating you in a safe, non-judgmental space where the therapeutic process will be tailored to fit your needs.
I have cared for people with a broad range of challenges including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, relationship concerns, grief & loss, life transitions, addiction and trauma. I also specialize in eating disorders.
Some of the treatment orientations I work from include: Person-Centered, Existential-Humanistic, Internal Family Systems, Multicultural, Relational, Strength Based, Trauma Focused, Feminist, Integrative, HAES® (Health at Every Size), Body Trust® and Sand Tray.

Major coursework included individual counseling, group counseling, counseling theories and skills, human development, social and cultural diversity, crisis counseling, understanding addiction, diagnosing mental health disorders, assessment of mental health disorders, human sexuality, and gender affirming care. I am registered with the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor – I (CADC-I) and with the National Board for Certified Counselors as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and Psychology from Portland State University. As a Professional Counselor Associate, I am currently supervised by Selin Strait, LPC, CHT, and Tever Nickerson, LPC. I have direct experience working with adolescents with eating disorders in a residential setting as an intern as well as experience working with adults with eating disorders in an outpatient setting. I completed an internship and worked for three years in a residential and outpatient setting with adults with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. I have worked with patients who struggle with a variety of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, interpersonal conflict, parenting stress, grief and loss, and navigating life transitions.
I see my job as a therapist as being a supporter of your work to know, grow, and use your own wisdom and strength to move toward your goals. I am also aware of how power, privilege, and oppression can affect our work together. I invite discussion around this and seek to lessen the impact of any imbalance. My goal is to empower you as the client to have choice and autonomy in our work together. My approach is a combination of multiple methods. I tend to think about cases through the lens of biopsychosocial, existential, attachment, and person-centered theories. In terms of skills, I lean toward dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). More importantly, I like to see what works for you as an individual and adjust the ideas and skills I bring into our sessions to fit your needs.
